CLT Explorer — Privacy Policy

CLT Explorer collects the following categories of data: contact, identifiers, content, usage. Perfect Ship LLC uses this data only to operate the app.

You can read the whole guide without an account, and signing out is the default. Browsing the guide, the maps, the history archive, the knowledge graph and the games stores nothing about you on our server. Your trip plan, your game progress, your badges and Sand Dollars, your theme and text size, and your recently viewed places are all held in your own browser's storage and never sent to us. Playing signed out is a permanent, first-class way to use the app, not a trial — clearing your browser's site data for the app erases all of it.

There is one exception for signed-out visitors, and it is worth naming plainly: when a search you type returns no results at all, that search text is sent to us and stored, so we can see what the guide is missing and go write it. Searches that DO find something are never sent. The text is lowercased and normalised, and repeated misses increment a counter rather than creating new rows. Nothing about who typed it is stored with it — the table has no account column by design, and no session, device identifier, or IP address is recorded. Your IP address is read at that moment only to enforce a rate limit held in memory, and it is never written to the database.

CLT Explorer runs no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party tracking software of any kind. There is no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no PostHog, no Sentry, no Vercel Analytics, and no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. Nothing you do is sent to an AI provider — the app publishes tools that an AI agent can use, but it never calls a model itself.

Signing in is optional and is handled by Auth0, our authentication provider. Before an account is created you are asked a single neutral question — whether you are 13 or older. We store the yes-or-no answer and the date you gave it. We never ask for or store a birthdate, and there is no birthdate column in the database. If you answer no, no account is created at all. Your account record then holds your email address, the display name and avatar picture your sign-in provided, your role on the site, your home city, and two opt-in switches that are off unless you turn them on. What an account adds is the ability to post photos and reviews, and to sync your progress across devices.

If you use the "near where I am staying" feature, the app stores a block number — a street number between 1 and 200 — and not a street address, a unit number, or coordinates. The database has no column for anything more precise.

Signed-in members can post photos and reviews, and those are real records held on our server. A photo stores the image file, the caption and alternative text you write, the place it is attached to, the date taken if you give one, and its moderation state; a review stores your rating, the text you write, the place, the date of your visit if you give one, and its moderation state. Both are linked to your account. Nothing is publicly visible until a human moderator approves it — every upload enters the queue as pending and nothing in the app can auto-approve. Please note that photo files are uploaded directly from your browser to our storage provider and are stored as you send them, so any camera metadata embedded in the file by your device — which can include the location where the photo was taken — is stored along with the image. If that matters to you, strip it before uploading.

Playing the games while signed in keeps a ledger of your check-ins at places, the Sand Dollars you have earned and the badges you have been awarded. A check-in stores your account, the place, the date and time, and how many Sand Dollars it paid. Sand Dollars are a scoring device and nothing more: they cannot be bought and cannot be cashed out, and the app is built so that neither is possible.

CLT Explorer requests no device permissions at all. It never asks for your location, camera, microphone, notifications, motion sensors, or contacts, and there is no code in it that does. You may see a "precise location" switch on your account page — it is off, it is there for a feature that does not exist yet, and no part of the app currently asks your browser where you are. Your check-ins are not verified against where you actually are.

Some parts of the guide load content from other companies, and those companies see your IP address and browser the same way they would if you visited them directly. Map views load vector map tiles and fonts from OpenFreeMap. The live page embeds YouTube videos, and YouTube sets its own cookies when it does. Photo uploads go straight from your browser to our storage provider. Everything else — the rail times, the weather, the river and lake levels, the flight status, the ball scores — is fetched by our own server from the transit agency, the National Weather Service and the other sources, so those requests carry our server's address and not yours.

CLT Explorer takes no money. There is no subscription, no purchase, no pricing, and no payment processor of any kind is contacted — there is no Stripe or other payment account behind the app, and nothing in it can charge you.

To delete your account, email support@theperfectship.com from the address on the account, or use the account deletion page linked from this app's support page. Your account record is stripped of the personal details in it, and your photos and reviews are deleted outright along with it.
