Sourdough — Privacy Policy

Sourdough does not collect personal information. Perfect Ship LLC operates no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting in this app, and includes no third-party tracking software.

Any settings or saved progress are stored on your own device and are never transmitted to us. Removing the app removes that data.

Sourdough asks for your device location once, during the wild-yeast harvest that creates a starter. The reading is used on the device to work out a coarse place label and region — the geographic provenance stamped into that starter and carried down its lineage. It is not sent to us or to anyone else: the app performs no network requests, and the place lookup runs entirely offline against a small table built into the app. If you decline the permission, you pick a broad region by hand instead and the app works exactly the same.

Sourdough also uses local notifications (scheduled on your device, to tell you the starter is peaking or hungry), device motion, and your device's own preference or local storage for the save file. None of these send anything off the device.

Sharing a starter and backing one up are both file-and-link operations, not uploads. A shared flake is packed into a self-contained token embedded in a link or QR code, and a backup is a portable code or .sourdough file you keep, optionally encrypted with a passphrase you choose. On iOS and Android the most recent backup is also mirrored to the platform's own key-value store for your device. No Perfect Ship LLC server receives, stores, or can read any of it.

Sourdough has no accounts and no sign-in.
